First read all the books 40yrs ago. I have just re-read them and appreciate the sentiment behind the story so much more. A classic set of books I could not be without.

I'm a big fan of literary novels like Farewell to Arms, Painted Bird. 'All Quiet on the Western Front,' is touted as the great German perspective war novel, but Legion of the Damned was much better. This is a book you can read at in any point in time and

Wow! I read these books as a kid and they gave me the taste for history that most other sources gloss and tart over. thank you for an insight into an interpretation of history. This is a tribute to horrors, that, sadly, politics appeals to reproach. May

Read his books in 1971 and could not stop until I have read all his books. Bought a complete set of his books recently and read all again. It is the best books about WW2 you can find and stunning reading.

Sven HASSLE books are a fantastic read. I started reading them in the 70s when I was in the ARMY. The books would be passed around several times within the platoon. I have now started to read them again on my KINDLE. Just great reads. Thank you. Phil

Excellent reading. Why do others have to lambast Mr Hassel over his past? Personally I think they should have just let it go, leaving this talented writer to get on with the job. Lots of people who came through the pre war and war years left things behind

Sven Hassel is my absolute favourite author. If not because of his brutal, un-censured writing, then for the chance of seeing the face on the man at the library when asking if they've got any Sve Hassel works in. 🙂

Also a massive lover of the series. Had to make do with an incomplete collection my dad had and whatever I could find at charity shops. Just finished Bloody Road to Death and have Wheels of Terror arriving this week.

as a teenager, asked my father if I could read these books. Yes he said, I think you should.I now cannot put tools away without first cleaning them. These novels had a profound affect on me and am now resourcing them all.
