I've read these books so often they've fallen apart! The characters are like old friends, I know each of them intimately. Terrible, terrible time for all involved but superb writing about one of mankind's darkest times.

Although the later books become parodies ,the early ones are very good.I read them as a teenager in the 1970s.It`s a pity a decent film has never been adapted from the novels,The Misfit Brigade as Hassel said is not good at all.

A unique story teller.I've enjoyed his work for some 40 years. It's sad that among the many imitaters and pretenders there has yet to emerge a writer who captures the spirit and the verve of Sven Hassel. Rest in peace sir.

Started reading Sven's books in 1978 when I was 13. Now I am 50 & still I read them. Make me laugh make me cry, most of all it makes me realise how futile war is / how strong the human spirit. Brilliant books

Have been a fan for many years and have read all of Sven's books. Saw the Wheels of Terror movie some years ago but didnt think much of it. The books remain more descriptive.

I have a tremendous interest in WW2 history. To my delight I stumbled upon one of Sven's books: 'SS General'. So after reading it, I have started at the beginning and will work my way through the collection. My only regret is that I will not get a chance
