Just looked up March Battalion. Chapter three. Heide explains his hell-like childhood but not how he came to be in the disciplinary regiment. Reply: As far as I understand, Heide did what necessary to join the penal regiment in order to avenge his mother. Unfortunately Sven is not around anymore to ask.
