His books are very inspiring and i find them as such good motivation to continue dreaming about writing my own books. There is some stuff i´m not sure i like about Sven, how much of those horrors described in his books were made by him? We´ll never know. How many of the down right inhumane things done by Porta and Tiny were actually made by Sven himself, again, we'll never know, he is the only martor to what he did. I find his books so enjoyable and real, there is just something to being able to know of how fucked up us, humans are that is fascinating. My respect goes for everyone who can read his books and see more than what Sven was on. My father introduced me to his books and i'm glad he did. He, as a writer is an inspiration for me and i look up to him as a writer. I managed to buy all of his books and now i'm reading them again all over. It just doesn't get old. I wish to all who might read this now or in a few years a good time! -Beni

I first read the Sven Hassel books as a 10yr old and am have just read many of them again and they have lost none of interest or that act of grabbing the readeread r in the last 40+ yrs inbetween reads. Only now I have to hunt them down with bit of difficulty especially if I want original sleeves or covers . This makes the read more fun

I first read the series of books when I 13 yrs old (I'm now 57 ) The way he wrote these you felt you were there living along side them. I still have all the books and read them every couple of years and still get the same feelings I had as a teenager. He is still one of my favourite authors. A very courageous man putting pen to paper trying to educate us to the futility of war.

I read all of them years ago…an amazing picture of the awful WW2….I cannot forget all of them! Do you know if the last manuscript has been traslated in english? Thank you and regards. Andrea

Just started reading all the books 35 years after I originally read them. They have lost none of a gritty magic. Absolutely compulsive reading and impossible to put down. The author really did capture the human side of men are drawn together through war and its tragedy.

I remember passing Sven Hassel books around in the school playground in the '70s, until we'd all earned enough money to buy our own copies. I think I was about 7 when I first started reading them. Great stuff. I still have all of mine. Sadly, my own kids aren't interested. Just thought I'd try a wikipedia search, then came across this site. Can't believe all the rubbish written by people crying fraud etc. These are stories, with some truth behind them, and other things based on how the characters would act in other circumstances. None of the covers said "Every word of this is true". Relax and enjoy them for the fun that they are. Absolutely timeless, and the only WWII novels I ever read many many times each, as opposed to the Leo Kessler type ones I only read once – they're ok, but not a patch on Sven Hassel. Nice to see updates to this site even in 2022. Take care.

Started reading even hassel books as a youngster around 17yrs old am now 66. First book I read was Monte Casino wow after that I just got every book when available. I read them avidly and have me so much pleasure,sure there was gruesome stuff but after all it was war ,and did show war as it was .but apart from that the characters were great and honestly has some great laughs reading the banter between Porta,Tiny etc.I must say they have been amongst the best novels I have ever read such a joy and easy to read without any of them feeling as it was a long slog.Thank you Mr Hassel for the joy you have given myself and other readers of your work.you are sadly no longer here but you will never be forgotten.

First introduced to Sven Hassel as a youngster when my father was at a book and toy fair for retail outlets. He said to pick what I wanted and I subsequently picked, The Bloody road to death. Read every one of his books as a kid, several times. I think I'll buy them all again, they're as good as anything by Bernard Cornwell.

Currently watching Wheels of Terror" movie online and remembering growing up in England, I think I read every Sven Hassel book there was back then. I enjoyed them and now have the urge to check Amazon and see about getting them again.

Hello,l first read wheel's of terror when about 10 or 11 ,lent to me by a school friend, not only was l terrified by the contents l would find my self laughing at Porta's or Tiny's comical behaviour . At one point by my mid 20's l had every title,Sven became my favourite author along with Spike Milligan , now in my late 60s I'm in the process of recollection of my mislaid library , sincerely yours Dennis Welch

Hi, I'm 25 and I discovered Sven's books when I was 15-16 and I feel like a newbie compared to someone who read them 20 years ago or more. But I love them incredibly and have a very strong bond with his books. I think I found them at a time when I was in dire need of friends. I really wanted to meet Sven just to thank him, but sadly I couldn't. I really appreciate this page that continues to keep him and his works alive. Every day I try to keep Sven and his works alive because I am very fond of them: I love writing fanfictions about Sven and his characters, talking about his books, encouraging people to do it, I have a mug with a print of Sven, different t-shirts themed you and a sweatshirt, I love to commission drawings on the characters and create music playlists that remind me of the characters. Not long ago on fb I created an initiative on my page in which every day, for a month, I published a quote or dialogues from his books to try to involve other people and bring them closer to his books, just because Porta in "Cursed by God" he took the liberty of saying that no one cared about them and the stories they had to tell! I took it very personally and wanted to prove it was wrong ahaha! I have two Sven characters tattoos on my body and this year one of the stops on my traveling holiday was Montecassino.
